Liquidity Lessons from Synovus: Handling 2025 Corporate Finances

Corporations and innovators must prioritize flexibility and agility in their investments. Doing so is key to keeping staff well-paid and businesses afloat if emergencies strike. 2025 is already burdened by financial uncertainty and high interest rates, making resilience and preparation essential. Discover how liquidity planning experts at Synovus use cash forecasting and market insights to set companies up for success.

The Current State of Cash and Liquidity

Research shows interest rates have risen to a 23-year peak, ranging from 5.25% and 5.5%. Synovus experts suggest dips may come soon. Changes in employment rates, inflation and administrative changes also impact liquidity.

This could hurt organisations depending on rates to supply money market accounts and other high-interest-accruing assets. Taking advice from the industry’s thought leaders should inform budget restructuring.

Incorporate tips to increase the chances of withstanding risks outside of corporate controls, like the international impacts of President Donald Trump’s administration with reciprocal tariffs.

Tom Loffredio, Managing Director of Synovus Capital Markets, suggests, “Looking forward, inflation will be impacted by proposed tariffs and the supply chain. If companies are paying more for goods, they’ll need cash to do so. This will reflect how businesses manage their corporate liquidity planning into 2025 and beyond.”

The Best, Evidence-Based Methods for Stability

Leverage these techniques to become reliable to stakeholders and customers.

Draft a Bulletproof Investment Policy Statement (IPS)

An IPS is a detailed outline of the brand’s goals and risk willingness. It also validates how the team will meet these objectives by clarifying cash flow and operational necessities. These provide a comprehensive picture of the organisation’s standing against the current economic climate, which could include:

  • Determinations for asset diversification to boost liquidity.
  • Solidifying how to track financial performance against forecasts.
  • Criteria for judging investment opportunities.

Business continuity plans and risk assessments are also vital to include as a supplement to an IPS. It should cover primary and secondary liquidity, especially as the incentive to hold on to cash is lowering with interest rates.

Synovus experts recommend evaluating these values and strategies every quarter to ensure they effectively guide the company while considering market volatility.

Carefully Reference What Worked Before

Loffredio reminds corporations that the past may not be adequate to predict liquidity planning in 2025. He recommends thinking about short- and long-term capital simultaneously. This requires stakeholders to imagine the upcoming months and the next few years with the same urgency.

He stated, “… corporations managed uncertainty with more cash and short-term investments to capture the higher interest rates while still managing risk.” This is an old strategy. They must be willing to revise plans to compensate for a future with more tariffs and higher prices. Leaning on management practices from the last few years will cause organisations to miss opportunities because a different economy informed those decisions.

Know How Borrowing Power Impacts Decision-Making

As the market changes, it inspires enterprises to act in different ways. This could lead to trends, causing pressure within the sector. Leaders may want to increase capital investments while society focuses on creating an open capital market. Additionally, rate reductions could make borrowing less expensive in the future.

These influences may cause a widespread priority shift in how corporations use money. Commercial entities are encouraged to scale and request lending, implying increased mergers and acquisitions. All parties must consider whether this is viable long-term and if it benefits their liquidity to make these decisions. Professionals implied M&As would be popular, but quarter one of 2025 showed a slowdown, hinting they are still risky.

Liquidity Solutions From Experts

Companies and entrepreneurs combat monetary instability gracefully by looking to professionals. Loyal customers and a good reputation establish corporate futures, but they also demand taking advantage of smart liquidity opportunities. Stakeholders are more likely to find them by applying these insights to budgeting practices for 2025. Ensure this happens by contacting a Synovus representative for more curated advice for establishing financial security.
