LANDESK Finalizes AppSense Acquisition, Advances Lead in Unified Endpoint Management with Extended User Virtualization Capabilities

LANDESK today announced it has completed the acquisition of California-based AppSense, the leading provider of secure user environment management solutions. This acquisition brings LANDESK additional Unified Endpoint Management capabilities, extending its offerings to management of both physical and virtual devices, and eliminating the need for separate tools and processes. In addition, AppSense advances LANDESK’s vision for endpoint protection, further strengthening its security offerings.

“Since announcing our intention to acquire AppSense, the feedback we’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Steve Daly, CEO of LANDESK.  “Nearly everyone, from customers to industry analysts, has had positive things to say.  We look forward to digging in and beginning the process of integrating teams and technologies, and to start getting to know the AppSense partners and customer base.”

Early points of planned product integration include:

·       Xtraction integration to connect information from the AppSense database with other sources of IT and business data to provide enhanced visibility and real-time reporting to help drive informed decision making.

·       Workspaces integration to provide IT with a comprehensive view of all the users and devices in their environment, as well as the tools they need to monitor and take action on issues such as overall client health. Integration with the End User Workspace will also provide AppSense end users access to the LANDESK App Store, improving the IT self-service experience.

·       Product bundles and customer-driven product integration. In addition to planned product bundles that will be announced shortly, LANDESK is soliciting feedback from customers to help prioritize areas for additional integration, while continuing to execute on each organization’s published roadmaps.

In addition to integrating solutions over time, LANDESK also plans to maintain AppSense products as stand-alone offerings that can be purchased and used separately.

“Using both AppSense and LANDESK at our multiple hospitals has stabilized the IT environment at Sharp HealthCare significantly,” said Donald Nelson, technical system administrator, who helps administrate the organization’s 16,000 desktops and 800 Citrix virtual servers.

“Everybody is using the same image and the same policies and procedures. This acquisition will really simplify things for us as administrators. We’ll have one central point of contact for technical support and a common community for knowledge sharing.”

The acquisition marries two companies with a shared focus on the end user. The combined organization will have a dominant market position, with over 1,200 employees in 22 countries, 15,000+ customers, 25+ million endpoints and more than 500 partners.

“LANDESK has a product portfolio that includes nearly everything but the type of user environment management AppSense specializes in,” said Gabe Knuth, industry analyst and blogger at BrianMadden.com. “The AppSense-LANDESK deal is too good a fit to not go well.”

Since the establishment of AppSense in 1999, the company has gained a strong customer base in healthcare, banking, and finance, where virtual desktop infrastructure is strong and compliance is critical. AppSense counts eight of the top-10 healthcare companies as customers, as well as 16 of the top-20 global banks.

The AppSense user virtualization technology allows IT to secure and simplify control of physical, virtual and cloud-delivered desktops and applications.  Its user environment management solutions improve the overall user experience, security and management of endpoints under one solution. Also, by providing additional layers of security to complement a defense-in-depth approach, AppSense delivers an enhanced endpoint-security approach to protect against modern threats such as ransomware.
