Intertek gains new geotechnical and materials services and expands US Building sector with footprint into the New York Metro area.

The acquisition further expands Intertek’s portfolio of services in its Building & Construction line to support the building commissioning and building sciences markets, and extends its fenestration testing reach into the New York City metro area. Intertek will be able to integrate MT’s geotechnical evaluation services, materials testing, and special inspection capabilities, into its already extensive service offering. This acquisition also builds on Intertek’s successful purchase of Architectural Testing, Inc. (ATI) in 2013 to further extend its services to the construction phase of the building cycle.

MT provides services to residential and commercial building projects including quality inspection of materials, geotechnical assessment of building vibration, and window and glazing fenestration testing. The company also supports large transportation-related governmental infrastructure projects principally for roads and bridges.

“Adding MT’s capabilities to our current portfolio positions Intertek to further differentiate ourselves against the competition,” said Gavin Campbell, Senior Global Vice President of Building & Construction at Intertek. “The firm’s reputation as leader in its industry, coupled with Intertek’s recognition and services will allow us to rapidly grow our capabilities and further serve our customers in one of the world’s largest markets. We are very happy to welcome the MT employees into the Intertek family.”

The acquisition allows MT Group to offer its services beyond the immediate New York City metro area, working with Intertek to bring its inspection services to more customers across the country and beyond.

“For more than 35 years, we have proudly served the New York City metro area’s construction industry, building upon our established success in the area,” said Kevin Cosgrove Founder and CEO of MT Group. “As a part of Intertek, we’re joining an expansive domestic and international footprint, taking our capabilities beyond the area and providing an exciting opportunity for our customers and employees.”

Founded in 1980 and headquartered out of Long Island, N.Y., the MT Group employs a staff of over 100 professionals comprised of civil, structural, mechanical engineers and construction inspectors. MT has a reputation for offering professional quality services to its clients and has vast experience with infrastructure, institutional, building and transportation projects.
