Kettani Law Firm – Leading Law Firm in Morocco

Kettani Law Firm

Kettani Law Firm (KLF) is one of the largest Moroccan independent law firms with 120 staff based in its Casablanca head office.

Recently, KLF was recognized in 2019 AI’s Leading Adviser as the “Leading Arbitration and Litigation Law Firm of the Year” in Morocco.

Based on the above title, we profiled KLF and contacted Pr. Azzedine Kettani who was kind enough to showcase the inner workings of his award-winning practice.

Established in 1971, KLF is specialized in a vast range of legal matters such as securities law, banking and finance, project finance, renewable energy as well as telecommunications and has advised clients all over the world.

Today, KLF is divided into four departments: Arbitration, Consulting, Litigation and Dedicated Units.

Going into further detail, Pr. Azzedine enlightened us on the interoperability of these key departments as well as the awardwinning services the team provides to their diverse range of clients.

“The consulting department assists companies and institutions in the drafting and negotiation of different transactions and projects, as well as the review of all documents until their completion.

In regards to cross border assistance, KLF assists its clients with respect to their investment abroad as well as advises foreign companies on their projects in the African continent. As an international law firm, KLF also advise multinational companies, in their respective countries, on their projects with foreign companies particularly in the context of joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions.”

The motivated and highly experienced team which works at a sustained pace is the backbone of KLF. Indeed, Pr. Azzedine was keen to highlight the significant role the team plays in the firm’s overall success.

“At Kettani Law Firm, our staff is composed of bilingual and trilingual lawyers admitted to the bars of Casablanca, Paris and New York. Each member of our team plays a major role in the success of the firm.

“The deep-rooted expertise and local knowledge in multiple fields enables us to offer clients a transversal and efficient approach to each case’s specific issues. As a result, we are able to provide clients with innovative legal advices and solutions.”

Regarding the arbitration department, Pr. Kettani has been practicing national and international arbitration for more than 35 years as sole arbitrator, member of a tribunal or as representative of a party under ICC and ICSID rules. He was also a member of the ICSIC panel of arbitrators appointed in September 2011 through 2017.

As such, he is regularly acting as president or member of arbitration tribunals and annulment committees. He is also a member of the panel of arbitrators of the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC). Pr. Azzedine Kettani has been co-opted member of the Users council of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (S.IA.C).

With respect to the litigation department, the firm manages no less than 30.000 cases continuously and a recovery portfolio worth approximately 20 billion MAD, the litigation department has a dynamic team acting swiftly and efficiently in a swift pace litigation environment.

“Our cases involve recovery of claims, assisting companies under bankruptcy, in addition to the resolution of all types of conflicts including civil law, commercial law, corporate law, labor law, maritime law, insurance law, aviation law, administrative law, criminal law, white-collar litigation and intellectual property.

KLF is also appreciated for its availability and responsiveness, its knowledge of local specificities, combined with international expertise allow it to understand the constraints faced by local or foreign investors.

Looking ahead to what the future holds for the firm, the team at KLF will continue to deliver an impeccable service, ensuring that they, not only meet the requirements which have been set by their clients, but also surpass their expectations. Bringing the interview to a close, Pr. Azzedine signs off by revealing the exciting plans which lie in the pipeline for the firm, especially following their success in AI’s Leading Adviser 2019 where they were righteously awarded the accolade Leading Arbitration and Litigation Law Firm of the Year, Morocco.

“Moving forward, our country is growing to international standards in law. We are ready, as professionals, to provide the best service to incoming foreign investors in the years to come.”
