Best Animal Welfare Organisation 2026 - Algarve
The Nandi charity was founded in 1996
by John and Doreen Piteleen. Concerned about the number
of stray dogs and cats in the Algarve, they set up a charity
with the aim to raise funds for a sterilisation program,
veterinary treatment, and animal food.
Today, Nandi is a registered charity, with two thriving shops
close to the Terras do Infante Public Hospital and Intermarché.
Both shops are very popular with both the Portuguese
and ex-pat communities, as well as holidaymakers.
