Non-Profit Organisation Awards 2022

22 Acquisition International - Non-Profit Organisation Awards 2022 May22131 Most Dedicated FamilyFocused Education Support Organization - Michigan n 2015, Cindy Eggleton and Jim and Carolyn Bellinson co-founded Brilliant Detroit. Their aim was to replicate the success of a community organizing early childhood education model from Los Angeles, called Magnolia Place. Magnolia Place was carefully adapted to suit Detroit’s underutilized housing stock. Putting home-based hubs in high-need neighborhoods allows the team the opportunity to provide programming that is invaluable to families with children. When Brilliant Detroit started to establish itself, it was as a way of empowering people and communities to make decisions for themselves. It wasn’t about the team implementing new ways of working from on high, but collaborating with communities to work with them as closely as possible. Now encompassing a range of sites, neighbors have been intrinsically involved through feedback and listening sessions before the first brick is laid. Advisory boards at each location provide ongoing feedback that has proven vital to continued success. The transformation of people is not something achieved purely through one part of our lives, and perhaps the most important part is the family. Through the holistic approach of the Brilliant Detroit team, the program has reached out to 13 neighborhoods, serving more than 7,500 children and caregivers with 90+ partners. It’s an incredible achievement, and one which is set to continue into the future. By 2024, the Brilliant Detroit team intend to open 24 hubs, offering population-level change and expanding into other cities. Needless to say, the growth of Brilliant Detroit is due in no small part to incredible leadership. Cindy Eggleton not only co-founded the business but has been CEO since its inception. Her current role has allowed her to thrive, combining the skills she has developed over more than 25 years in the field of education services. In her previous role as a consultant with the United Way for Southeastern Michigan to the Senior Director of Education Preparedness, she worked with other people and organizations, improving high school graduation rates, leading efforts to train over 15,000 early childhood caregivers and oversaw a foreclosure collaborative. Perhaps her most impressive achievement here was bringing the Social Innovation Fund to Detroit and thereby adding over $20 million worth of education support to the city. I When people look at Brilliant Detroit now, they see an organization that has grown to remarkable success. It doesn’t focus on individuals, but on communities and how those communities can be inspired to achieve true greatness. Every day, in every single one of the team’s locations, neighbors come together and share in something greater than the individual. They support each other when no one else will. The hard work done by the team at Brilliant Detroit has already fundamentally changed many children’s lives, and will change the lives of entire communities as a result. When given access to the tools they need to succeed, they can do anything. We cannot wait to see what they do next! Company: Brilliant Detroit Name: Cindy Eggleton Email: info@brilliantdetroit.org Our early years define who we are, but not all children have access to the right resources to flourish in later life. The team behind Brilliant Detroit have made it their mission to create a radically new approach to kindergarten readiness in neighborhoods. Drawing on local communities, the team have now provided those who might have struggled with opportunities to thrive. We take a closer look in the light of their success in Acquisition International’s Non-Profit Organisation Awards 2022.
