Non-Profit Organisation Awards 2023

Acquisition International - Non-Profit Organisation Awards 2023 19 Multi-award winning JB Dondolo is a non-profit organisation founded in 2016 by Lumbie Mlambo. Its mission is to solve problems concerning lack of access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene in impoverished communities, with a particular focus on vulnerable women and girls. May23050 B Dondolo seeks to address the issue of lack of access to the natural resources essential for life. Within undeservedly impoverished communities it fights to reduce poverty, promote gender equality, and ensure good use of natural resources. As women and girls are the most vulnerable people in these low-income communities, the focus is always to get them out of the cycle of poverty with access to clean water. The organisation is based in Africa, operating specifically out of Zimbabwe. The non-profit organisation installs solar-powered water systems within rural and poor communities. Its intention is to eradicate the hours spent by women and girls collecting water. JB Dondolo uses a scientific approach when installing water systems, in partnership with geologists, surveyors, and science & technology institutions. It collects samples to test for quality, detect reservoirs and monitor geological data. This provides it with sufficient information as to know whether to dig, restore reservoirs, or install above ground water systems. Such an approach enables conservation of natural resources, and makes sure they are used appropriately. The organisation receives guidance to protect, conserve, and manage groundwater at all times, with a smart system of testing and monitoring employed. It also closely monitors implementation alongside its valued partners. This approach has resulted in the development of a sensing system that regularly checks the quality of the water over time, and also collects real-time data for analysis. JB Dondolo has a vision to become a global leader in reducing extreme poverty and infant mortality in rural communities. It wants to see a reduction of 90%, driven by the creation of innovative solutions. It hopes to see a world where clean water is not an obstacle to pursuing a better and more equitable life. It also hopes, as a company, that by 2040 it will have invested in a future that benefits everyone through important skills. It wants to have created 10 million new job opportunities, steered by its technology innovations. The organisation’s mission is to make it easy for impoverished communities to access those natural resources essential for life to exist. This objective is something founder Lumbie Mlambo really identifies with. As a woman, she recognises the value of managing period hygiene, and feels for girls who are unable to attend school owing to a lack of facilities for handling their time of the month. She also feels for the women who have to travel long distances each day to collect water, and barely get any time to themselves at all. As a result, such women are unable to develop the abilities they need to advance in life. J Most Innovative Water Systems Provider 2023 - Southern Africa & AI Social Impact Award 2023 In order to help bring women’s issues to the forefront, and get them a seat at the table, Lumbie recognises that a laser focus on the problems they face is required. Closing the gender gap, and increasing awareness at a global level, is what JB Dondolo seeks to do. And with Lumbie at the helm, women’s issues are quite firmly at the top of the agenda. She hopes to become a voice for the voiceless, aware that every action she takes has a significant effect for so many others. Lumbie sees water as the definitive factor in helping to both break the cycle of poverty and reduce the gender gap. JB Dondolo has already achieved incredible feats, such as in Matobo Hills where the organisation was able to save women 10 hours a day, something equivalent to a day’s wages! This was a significant contribution to the socio-economic growth of the communities there. It was also able to reduce the spread of diseases among infants, environmental degradation, and food insecurity. In addition, at the Igusi Clinic, JB Dondolo eliminated infant mortality, and increased the school attendance by girls. The school and clinic now share access to clean water. Following this, in 2019 JB Dondolo received a UN Global Leadership Award for its work, and was published in the wH20 Journal of Gender and Water. And now this admirable organisation is the worthy recipient of two more awards, namely Most Innovative Water Systems Provider 2023 - Southern Africa, and the AI Social Impact Award 2023. Congratulations to JB Dondolo, it is truly an organisation making a significant difference to so many lives. Company: JB Dondolo Web Address: https://jbdondolo.org/ Contact Name: Lumbie Mlambo
