However people do recognise they have business challenges that need digital solutions. Possibly more so since the Pandemic! They just don’t necessarily know what digital tools are available to fix their problems. Founder and Managing Director Rob Bosher explains that when Quintessence started to manufacture multi touch screens back in 2009 there was no market for multi touch. People had not seen pinch zoom of content or comparisons as we now appreciate on our mobile phones. We did not actually know what business problems we were solving other than it was an excellent data and content visualisation, collaboration and cataloguing tool coupled with a hunch that we could create a new market opportunity. Rob explains “Not only did we manufacture our own hardware with projectors, mirrors and infrared (We now see this in a slim touch screen tv produced by larger manufacturers). This also included developing software applications for problems that people did not know existed. We also had to create a market. This was a big vision looking back and a big challenge on a shoestring budget and seeing where we could generate interest, it’s been an adventure.” One of the early adopter markets was the property sector and since then Quintessence has been one of the go-to companies for interactive solutions for property marketing and sales. Others followed such as the Education and Retail sectors, along with Smart City and regeneration initiatives. Other competitors have naturally joined the market including main manufacturers with a focus on hardware as the grow in this sector has formed globally. Mainly with the purpose of white board collaboration and video conferencing, but there still exists a whole market of untapped opportunity for further understanding of multi touch application usage where hardware manufacturers have dragged the market back to what they know, rather than the solutions and applications that the markets need. But in this process of learning and adapting to the market growth, one thing that has helped transform Quintessence in this process is our knowledge and experience across sectors as we have been pulled into projects that have a complex requirement, whereby the multi touch screen is opened up as simply ‘the mouth piece of the solution’.
