Achieving her dreams, however, has taken her down a path that has proven exciting and challenging in ways she might not have anticipated. Now not only a stylist, but a teacher, coach and mentor, Crystal is committed to pushing the boundaries so that others might thrive too. Crystal’s career began in 2001, working alongside various professionals and building up an impressive set of skills both in terms of her work as a stylist and her desire to be a leader. In her current position as the owner of two salons, she considers it vital that she know how every part of the business works. In order to relate to her team, she thinks it’s important to walk in their shoes, to know what they’re going through and to understand how their role plays a part in the success of the business. With this mindset driving Crystal forward, it’s little wonder that she took the plunge and started her first salon, Fusion Salon Avalon, in 2017. With teaching at the heart of how she works, many of her recruits come direct from beauty school and are able to benefit from a practical perspective on how to run a business. There is continuous growth because of continuous investment in education at every level of the business. At Fusion, a growing portfolio of training salons, Crystal Praul has made it her mission to train people in how to make a career from their jobs. Over the years, there has been a transformation in the way that salons are run and the way that they are seen by others. Crystal has tried to remain at the forefront of these trends, with by far the biggest change being social media. This has given women the opportunity to gain exposure without the challenges of travelling. People can share their personalities with others much more easily, building a connection and relationship that inspires trust. The success of Fusion is clear from their impressive range of clients who come to them year after year. Looking after everyone from babies to glam moms, the team are always trusted to deliver impressive hair care that is second to none. Their service goes above and beyond at all times, with the team sharing formulars with other salons that look after their clients in order to keep a client’s hair at its best. Being a female boss is not always easy, and Crystal knows better than most how others can interpret her actions. Where a female boss will be being unreasonable and emotional, a male boss will just be doing their job. She believes that if a boss is firm, fair and consistent, then they are doing the best possible job. Her position training new entrants into the industry further proves this point. Looking ahead, 2022 will see Crystal finishing the rebranding of her second location, bringing both salons together as one. She has loved getting to know a new team and seeing them thrive in a new working environment. The beauty industry is one which never stops, and so Crystal makes sure that she continues to explore new possibilities at all times. Whilst famed for their approach to colour, she wants people to think Fusion when they need spray tans, lashes or a barbers – the current expansion of the business is just the beginning of the mark she’s going to leave on the Atlantic Coast! The biggest mark of Crystal’s success, however, is not the way in which Fusion has grown, but the tenacity that lies behind her desire to empower more people.
