Supporting the firm in achieving its goal, is award-winning CFO, Ruud Janssen EMBA. Following his recent recognition in the Global CFO Excellence Awards, we profiled Ruud to discover more about his extraordinary experience and his outstanding work. ince inception, Sysmex Middle East FZ-LLC has grown rapidly into one of the region’s leading diagnostic suppliers, with a reputation for providing high quality products and an outstanding service. Supporting the firm’s financial area, is CFO Business Driver of the Year (UAE): Ruud Janssen. As CFO for the Middle East region, Ruud believes that he is not responsible for just the finances of the firm, but also for the interest of the teams and other stakeholders. Starting his career in 2003, Ruud began his first job as a junior auditor for an audit company - Joanknecht & Van Zelst in the Netherlands - which was the basis of understanding the financial and legal playfield CFO’s operate within. A couple of years later, Ruud started to work for Charles Goffin Beheer B.V., the mother company of the entities who were representing the Sysmex distributorship rights for the Netherlands and Belgium. Ruud’s role was Group Controller of this group existing out eight entities spread over the Netherlands and Belgium. The Group was running business in different industries, such as healthcare laboratories, industrial laboratories and safety communication systems. The move from Joanknecht & Van Zelst to Charles Goffin Beheer B.V. was tailored more towards Ruud’s personal idea of leading companies’ growth, by enhancing their finance, accounting and controlling activities, while simultaneously utilizing the acquired knowledge from the audit firm of preparing companies annual statements and tax filing. Ruud shared that in 2009, Sysmex Europe GmbH acquired the entities with the distributor rights in Netherlands and Belgium, which was the moment he entered the corporate world and became a part of the Sysmex family. “Sysmex Europe GmbH saw my value in establishing businesses and my interest in Merger & Acquisition. Based on this, I was transferred to Sysmex Europe GmbH in 2012 and stepped into my role as EMEA Project Manager. The role was mainly dedicated to establishing new legal entities and integrating newly acquired companies from a financial, accounting and controlling perspective.” Fast forward to 2016 Ruud moved once again, leaving his home country for the first time. This time to Sysmex Middle East FZ-LLC in the United Arab Emirates as there was a need for his experience in the region. Here he gave support to the further growth of the prosperous region by reorganising the finance area; integrating IFRS rules; establish another affiliate - Sysmex Egypt LLC - and the change of business model in other countries in the region. S Throughout his remarkable career, Ruud has had to face many obstacles and has been part of several successful projects. When discussing his countless accomplishments, Ruud is modest when talking about his achievements, but is keen to offer tips to those who wish to have a successful career in this dynamic industry. “As CFO in the Middle East region, I can say that I am not at the peak of my career yet. This provides me with possibilities for further growth, but also the opportunity to observe other CFO’s and leaders within and outside of Sysmex. Within Sysmex, our CEO, Mr. Ietsugu, is a person who inspires me a lot. When I met him back in 2015 at the Sysmex Headquarters in Japan, he gave me a few words of appreciation which meant a lot to me.” Boasting an impressive growth, Sysmex Middle East is rapidly expanding alongside the growing sales in the region. Looking ahead, the firm’s main target for going forward, especially in the current economic climate, is to stay as close as possible to their customers who are serving the hospitals and ultimately the patients. As for his personal future goals, it is important for Ruud to continuously challenge and develop the company, his colleagues and himself to support further growth. He aspires to do this by utilizing his talents, interests, and key values. He believes this is the recipe for anyone wanting to find the career which is closest to their heart. Signing off, Ruud reveals what he enjoys most about his current role and his hopes for the business in the years to come. “One of my key values is to support and help people around me as well as to strive to be the best.
